What is Black Mesa

Previous fans of Half-Life will be thrilled to discover that a fan-produced homage called Black Mesa is available for free download. For users who have never had the privilege of playing Half-Life, they are in for a treat and should start with Black Mesa. This fan-made Half-Life remake was artfully crafted by developers to provide players with an extremely immersive story and environment. The programming crew worked hard to create small details that make the game even more fun to play, and it is suggested that players do some exploring around the environment to discover the intricacies of each scene.

For fans that have already played any of the Half-Life games, there is a sense of nostalgia as well-loved characters make their return looking younger and more detailed. Interaction with characters is still fun, and characters will talk to players if spoken to in this version too.

Graphics for the game have totally changed and offer a different feel than those that were used in Half-Life. While the same source engine was used, the graphics have a more contemporary feel and compete with those found in most modern games of this style.

It does not deviate too much from the original game, and when it does deviate, it enhances gameplay for players. Black Mesa does have a lengthy installation process but is worth it for the attention to detail, enhanced soundtrack, graphics and original storyline.
